Under first year head coach and former Twice As Strong Hockey player; Matt Brown led team Strong to another championship final, but unfortunately lost in a 2-1 effort to a solid Hipuhpotomi team. We are happy to report that the Strong skated to another successful season by turning in an overall record of 6 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties. However, more importantly, our players really came together and played as a team and that’s what we expect and support.
It gives me great pleasure to report that this year’s team also had four of the top ten goal scorers, Richie Gaskin, Domenic Mustone, Thomas Babine and Domenic Capezzuto; congratulations. Our players continued to impress weekly as they skated their way into the playoffs and unfortunately got edged out in a very close game in the finals. But not to worry; our guys are Champions; and are already talking about the next phase and season when they can lace up the skates and start playing TAS Hockey.
Twice As Strong Hockey’s mission is to develop players and provide them with additional ice time in the spring. In spite of the fact that we did not have the opportunity to raise another championship trophy, it was clear when our players took the ice, they were confident, they believed in themselves, and they trusted each other. Mission accomplished!
I am excited to say that as we prepare for the 2023 season, our coaches are currently looking for and recruiting players that will fit our mold. We are not like other programs. It is imperative for us to find players who are willing to meet our standards of behavior. Twice As Strong Hockey must and always will encourage a developmental teaching perspective. We look for those players who are responsible citizens in their communities, good people, and talented athletes. In addition to scoring goals and stopping pucks, Twice As Strong Hockey wants players that truly have a passion and love for the game.
As the 2022 season draws to a close, we must face the sad fact that players age out and must progress to a higher level. It is especially difficult this year because we have to say goodbye to Anthony White, Zach Shea, Dan Kress, and Cal Baglio. These guys have developed off-season skills in our program for most of their youth. Anthony, Zach, Dan, and Cal, this is not a goodbye, it is a thank you. You have been an integral part of this program; thank you for your dedication, your commitment, and your hard work. Thank you for bringing your individual talents to the table. Each year you wore the Twice As Strong jersey, you were a valuable part of our hockey team's journey. We wish you the best of luck in whatever endeavor you pursue on behalf of your teammates, coaches, and me. Thank you.
My sincere thanks go out to all our players, coaches, families, alumni, and fans for yet another successful year, and I hope all have a safe and enjoyable summer.
Once again, thank you and go strong!
